The cover can be removed and is washable. The backrest is not removable and can be fastened with straps when used as a chair. There's two ways to unfold the chair. To convert it into a one person bed, you fold out the chair out and turn it around. Another option is to fold the cushion below out forwards and create a chaise longue with the backrest in place.
